Eco-Tips # 4-Bottled Water~Tap into Alternatives!

FACT: One in five Canadians drinks only bottled water.

FACT: The longer a bottle of water sits on a store shelf or in a household pantry, the higher the dose of antimony the person who drinks it will receive--Antimony is a potentially toxic trace element with properties similar to arsenic. It is involved in the production of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) containers, a plastic used in many water bottles. Once water is bottled, the antimony levels rise in the water with time.

FACT: Bottled water produces up to 1.5 million of plastic waster per year and requires the burning of large amounts of fossil fuels to transport and for recycling. Do you really want to be a part of that?

There is a simple alternative to buying bottled water--Purchase yourself a nifty eco-friendly, safe, reusable water bottle and use it! This alternative is an excellent way to cut down on wasteful single use containers, while saving you money!

Don't like the way your tap water tastes? Inexpensive carbon filters will turn most tap water sparkling fresh at a fraction of bottled water's cost! Remember--All bottled water is basically purified/reprocessed tap water anyway! Seriously, this consumer will never buy a bottle of water again. It just doesn't make sense. It's back to the tap for me, with a reusable bottle!

Do you have other ideas? We would love to hear them!
